The London School of Painting and Drawing is a venture set up in 2002 by experienced artists and acclaimed tutors from the Royal Society of British Sculptors and the Slade School of Fine Art.
Students will be encouraged to develop ways of representation through the imaginative response to the observed world. Classes will explore various aspects of proportion and scale, composition, space, light and form.
The London School of Painting and Drawing is unique in not having a 'house style' but instead offers you the rare opportunity of working directly from the model aided by careful, individual tuition designed to encourage and develop your own individual creativity.
All levels of experience welcomed.
LSPD, a School set up by Artists for Artists like you.
Fees: £299 if payment is made by the 31 May 2013, thereafter £349

"The trouble is, we've been taught what to see and how to render what we see. If only we could be in the position of those men who did those wonderful drawings in Lascaux and Altamira!" Pablo Picasso.
We shall begin our painting & drawing day as normal with a slide talk by both Andy & Tom relating to two beautiful exhibitions coming to a close shortly 'Becoming Picasso: Paris 1901' until 26 May at the Courtauld Gallery, London & 'Ice Age art: arrival of the modern mind' also until 26 May at the British Museum, London.
Both exhibitions include Picasso, highlighting at the Courtauld the nineteen year old's influence from immediate near contemporaries Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh & at the British Museum the inspiration gained from Art dating over 20,000 years ago to the greatest of the 20th Century masters, including a particular London School of Painting & Drawing favourite, Matisse (also highlighted at the Courtauld with a drawing display: Picasso, Matisse and Maillol: The Female Model. Also finishing 26 May)...'One of the most beautiful pieces in the exhibition includes a 23,000 year old mammouth ivory sculpture of an 'abstract' figure from Lespugue, France. Picasso was so fascinated with this 'cubist' piece that he kept two copies of it. This figure demonstrates a visual brain capable of abstraction, the essential qualities needed to acquire and manipulate knowledge which underpins our ability to analyse what we see.' With this initial inspiration we shall continue to be inspired for the day with a choice of being able to work from either one or two model set ups.
